Viscoelasticity and cell swirling motion

چکیده
Although collective cell migration (CCM) is a highly coordinated and fine-tuned migratory mode, instabilities in the form of swirling motion (CSM) often occur. The CSM represents product active turbulence obtained at low Reynolds number which has feedback impact on various processes such as: morphogenesis, wound healing, cancer invasion. cause this phenomenon related to viscoelasticity multicellular systems context residual stress accumulation. Particular interest work to: (1) consider tissue cohesiveness as main parameter responsible for appearance, (2) discuss caused by CCM clarifying roles shear normal stresses, (3) describe dynamics mechanical waves generation based multiscale modeling consideration. While induces an increase packing density capable reducing healthy epithelium, exerts via torque against surface tension can induce CSM. Inhomogeneous distribution within swirl leads viscoelastic force suppressing CCM. This together with acts centrifugal radial pulsations connected successive stiffening softening. In work, review existing literature about given along assortment published experimental findings, order invite experimentalists test theoretical considerations systems.

Vitreal Viscoelasticity Revealed by Motion-Encoded MRI
Introduction: Retinal detachment results in visual loss and requires surgical treatment. The shear stress induced during eye movement by the vitreous on the retina can damage the retina. The following filling of the subretinal space with liquefied vitreous induce the detachment of the retina. Changes in the vitreous viscoelasticity impact on the shear stress. Up to now, the viscoelasticity of t...
متن کاملSwirling motion in a system of vibrated elongated particles.
Large-scale collective motion emerging in a monolayer of vertically vibrated elongated particles is studied. The motion is characterized by recurring swirls, with the characteristic scale exceeding several times the size of an individual particle. Our experiments identified a small horizontal component of the oscillatory acceleration of the vibrating plate in combination with orientation-depend...
متن کاملPhysiology-based model of cell viscoelasticity.
The measured viscoelastic properties of biological tissues is the result of the passive and active response of the cells. We propose an evolution law of the remodeling process in the cytoskeleton which is able to mimic the viscous properties of biological cellular tissues. Our model is based on dynamical changes of the resting length. We show that under the small strain regime, the linear rheol...
متن کاملViscoelasticity of the human red blood cell.
We report here the first measurements of the complex modulus of the isolated red blood cell (RBC). Because the RBC is often larger than capillary diameter, important determinants of microcirculatory function are RBC deformability and its changes with pathologies, such as sickle cell disease and malaria. A functionalized ferrimagnetic microbead was attached to the membrane of healthy RBC and the...
متن کاملBacterial Cell Division: A Swirling Ring to Rule Them All?
FtsZ, a tubulin homologue and the major constituent of the bacterial Z ring, has been shown to assemble into curved filament bundles, which exhibit GTP-hydrolysis-dependent turnover. Surprisingly, the presence of its membrane adaptor FtsA renders this turnover directional, inducing treadmilling and collective circular motion of filaments in vitro.
